Summary

A new collection of delightfully macabre tales from a master of horror manga。 An old wooden mansion that turns on its inhabitants。 A dissection class with a most unusual subject。 A funeral where the dead are definitely not laid to rest。 Ranging from the terrifying to the comedic, from the erotic to the loathsome, these stories showcase Junji Ito's long-awaited return to the world of horror。

Ma no Kakera (魔の断片, also titled Shard of Evil or Fragments of Horror), is a series of short stories by Junji Ito。
It began serialization in the first issue of the revived Nemuki+ (ネムキプラス) magazine on April 13, 2013。 It was subsequently published as a collection in Japan in June 2014, with the final story, "Whispering Woman", having been previously published in Shinkan (シンカン) rather than Nemuki+。 In December 2014, it was licensed by VIZ Media to be released in English in June 2015, under the "Fragments of Horror" title。

Fragments of Horror is filled with eerie, bizarre, and scary short stories。 The artwork was also very good。 I think my fav short story was the last one— Whispering Woman。 Very excited to get into more Junji Ito stories!

I am pretty weak when it comes to horror, so anything will be scary, but this is more than just scary in my opinion。 The stories in this book mess with your head A LOT。 I will not say the exact name of the one specific story that stood out to me the most, but that one did because of the sick plot twist at the end。 Highly recommend this for any Junji Ito beginners!

Definitely not his strongest work。 The tone was all over the place and the horror wasn't nearly as well done as Lovesickness or Tomie。 Definitely not his strongest work。 The tone was all over the place and the horror wasn't nearly as well done as Lovesickness or Tomie。 。。。more

A woman makes love to a house。 Another one gets off by dissecting animals。 This was a weird collection of short stories。

A collection of horror tales by manga horror master Junji Ito。 What I liked - This was a great starting point for myself as I’ve never read a full manga collection by Ito。 The stories within are a great mix of creepy, sad and even humorous at times。 What I disliked - As with any collection of singular stories some are better than others and some are shorter than I’d like。 A few of the stories slightly drag and others are over all too quickly。 3/5。

Brilliant。 A lot is conveyed in few words。 As my first introduction into the worlds of Junji Ito, I loved it and can’t wait to read more。

3。5 - I've been meaning to read Junji Ito's work for YEARS and finally got around to it with this collection of short stories。I felt the first couple of stories were stronger than the others (aside from maybe "The Whispering Woman")。 They gave a bizarre goriness ("Futon," "Tomio • Red Turtleneck", "Dissection-chan") and a genuine creepiness ("Blackbird") that kept my interest。 As I went on, some of the stories felt a bit too cheesy ("Magami Nanakuse"), and while entertaining, just didn't leave m 3。5 - I've been meaning to read Junji Ito's work for YEARS and finally got around to it with this collection of short stories。I felt the first couple of stories were stronger than the others (aside from maybe "The Whispering Woman")。 They gave a bizarre goriness ("Futon," "Tomio • Red Turtleneck", "Dissection-chan") and a genuine creepiness ("Blackbird") that kept my interest。 As I went on, some of the stories felt a bit too cheesy ("Magami Nanakuse"), and while entertaining, just didn't leave me impacted。I'll definitely be checking out some of his longer, more popular works。 。。。more

Junji Ito is a very good horror artist and writer, this was a good collection and I enjoyed some stories more than others but this is quite far from his best work。

Horror from a different view I’d never read Japanese horror before。 It has a more organic feel。 These are things that could happen or things that are around us every day that we take advantage of。 This was a very interesting ole Timon that kept me guessing。

It's a fantastic book but I can't give it the 5 stars the majority of the stories deserve because of the blatantly transphobic story。 I wish people talked about it more。 It's a fantastic book but I can't give it the 5 stars the majority of the stories deserve because of the blatantly transphobic story。 I wish people talked about it more。 。。。more

I like Junji Ito's innovative style but I couldn't help but notice that his stories are very similar to each other and most of it feels repetitive。 Still quite enjoyable but some stories were also forgettable。 I like Junji Ito's innovative style but I couldn't help but notice that his stories are very similar to each other and most of it feels repetitive。 Still quite enjoyable but some stories were also forgettable。 。。。more

Starts off okay with the futon story, but gets crazier and crazier。 Some standouts were The red turtle neck, Dissection-Chan, and Blackbird。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Foi o meu primeiro contato com o Junji Ito e amei a experiência de consumir algo dele, tudo é tão lindamente bizarro e espero muito em breve ler mais alguma obra dele。Sobre as histórias/contos:A minha favorita foi o “Suave Adeus”, passei por uma perda muito difícil recentemente e esse conto me tocou muito por vários motivos。O primeiro e o sétimo contos foram o que menos gostei, achei que ele queria fazer algo bizarro e senti que faltou mais história neles para poder entender eles melhor。

My play-by-play thoughts of each short:I found that The Futon had some phenomenal art, but might have required a few more pages of narrative because it was definitely more of a vehicle for the surreal horror art than a full-fledged short story。Wooden Spirit I really liked。 It could have also just been called "house-fucker," but the house's physical transformation is actually really unnerving。 I'd love to see a Hausu type live-action adaptation of it。"Tomio • Red Turtleneck。" I've never literally My play-by-play thoughts of each short:I found that The Futon had some phenomenal art, but might have required a few more pages of narrative because it was definitely more of a vehicle for the surreal horror art than a full-fledged short story。Wooden Spirit I really liked。 It could have also just been called "house-fucker," but the house's physical transformation is actually really unnerving。 I'd love to see a Hausu type live-action adaptation of it。"Tomio • Red Turtleneck。" I've never literally shivered in discomfort at looked away from a page before。 My new personal favourite of Junji Ito's short stories。Gentle Goodbye is definitely more melancholy than it is scary, and I found that to be a refreshing reprieve in a short horror anthology。Dissection-Chan。 God, I love crazy perverted bitches。 Dissection-chan x Dissection-kun forever ♡♡Blackbird。 Junji's answer to the Prometheus myth, an endless cycle of flesh being given and taken from a mysterious bird-woman。 Love her。 Her introduction reminds me of the mirror-faced woman from Meshes of the Afternoon。Magami Nanakuse。 A quirky drag queen and novelist gets her wig snatched by a kinnie。 THE most bizarre story in the collection, by far。Whispering Woman。 Love when besties work together ♡ 。。。more

It's a really good short story。3。 FutonJust very weird, very Ito。 Love the art here, it's absolutely bonkers in its details。 4。 Haunted Wood MansionUh Ito's formula generally is, if you can't make anything scary at once, draws distorted eyes on em。 Also incredibly specific fetish。 I mean you do you Ito。5。 Dissection GirlUh Okay? That was my whole reaction to this。 Again incredibly specific fetish but I read the wood story first so the fetish base was already covered。 The last image here is AMAZING。 But otherwise? Just plain manipulation honestly。6。 Whispering WomanJust a revenge story packed as horror。 I expected to be more surprised by the whispering lady's backstory but I mean okay。 Ok。 It's mediocre and forgettable。7。 Black BirdIto can't do science fiction。 This doesn't work and the big lips lady reminded me of Kylie Jenner so like I'm used to that Junji, you can't scare me。 Unimpressive。8。 Nanakuse KyokumiWhy? Why did you write this? It is just bad。 The horror is just one image, rest is weird everyone being copycat and like bro we live in a plastic world, tiktok is just about trends, you don't scare me Ito。 And also like the "eerieland" constant repetition is not scary or anything really。 It's just frustrating。 Like find other words。Kekekekekekekeke。 。。。more
